The past decade was a challenging era for South Africa’s telecommunications sector as it denied the sector time to determine our collective input to the NDP 2030 and apply our minds on how we shall meet the NDP’s expectations form the sector. For instance, the sector has not agreed on which of the SDGs are we going to devote our resources.
The NDP anticipates that the sector plans and incorporates the same SDGs into the corporate strategies of the sector members.
We witnessed long and drawn out Policy contestations, the challenges at the Authority, the slow responses to consumer demands, the botched DTT programme, our rhetoric on B-BBEE and SMME Development, the time spent in courts for one reason or the other, etc. have been tenfold. In the end, the telecoms sector has remained poorer as the country lost its grip and shine in the global ratings.
Because, if we do not plan for the high road of the telecoms sector, we remain on the low road.
As a key stakeholders in the telecoms sector, you are invited to a 3-Day engagement Summit where we shall explore together and build our 10-year action plan (2020 to 2030) for growing an inclusive telecommunications sector that supports the objectives of the NDP and the SDGs relevant to the telecoms.
The Summit enjoins us all to use the next 10 Years to catapult the telecoms to a vibrant, growing industry where all the entities are registering growth, deploy new technologies as they each thrive in a competitive but inclusive telecoms sector now comprising of a WOAN entity in a 4IR era.
Telecoms Summit SA 2030™ shall breathe life into the ideals that bind the sector.
In the three days, from 11 to 13 December 2019, the sector shall craft binding positions that will represent its contribution to the NDP 2030 by addressing specific SDGs as well as they will enhance the environment for a thriving 4IR epoch.
