AUTHOR'S REFLECTIONS: In The Footsteps of my Forefathers

ABOUT

A partnership between the Department of Library Services in collaboration with The Gauteng Department of Arts, Culture and Sports and Recreation and supported by the National Lotteries Commission (NLC) is celebrating a combination of National Events in the South African calendar, The National Heritage and Book Month. The event composition is made of keynote series and panel discussion geared towards the authors (whose parents are key political leaders of South Africa that have shaped the South African social, political and economic reality) to unpack the thought processes and emotions behind the written experiences beyond the written documentation.


OBJECTIVES





  1. Promoting the documentation of experiences in book form as means of preserving the knowledge for future generations.
  2. Utilizing a library in a higher education institute beyond the usual function as centre of preserving books but also as an interactive platform (Center for dialogue and knowledge change in real time) between the authors and the audience.
  3. Emphasis on the promotion of social cohesion and nation building.
  4. Showcasing Transformation and Innovation in terms of the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the University of Pretoria (Libby the Library Robot)


EVENT COMPOSITION

Festival of Tech Exhibition: including Libby the Library Robot:

Delegates will have an opportunity to interact with the University of Pretoria Library Robot, an innovation and pioneering 4IR/ Artificial Intelligence product in the library space in the African Continent.


Keynote Address:

"The Dynamics of Heritage Preservation in the Era of the 4th Industrial Revolution." Prof. Pitika Ntuli, a world renowned poet, cultural and heritage expert and award winning author


Panel Discussion:




  • Hlumelo Biko, the son of Mr Steve Biko and Author of "Africa Re-imaned,"
  • Lindiwe Hani, the Daugher of Mr. Chris Hani and Author of " Being Chris Hani's Daughter" and
  • Prof. Vasu Reddy, Dean of Humanities at the University of Pretoria
