ABOUT
Voices of South Africa Trust presents the Final Round of Voices of South Africa International Opera Singing Competition.
15 young singers will battle it out for the prize of the competition worth R60 000. 195 hopefuls from every corner of South Africa and neighbouring Southern African countries applied to the competition. Only 25 have been selected to come to Cape Town to take part in the masterclasses from 18-26 July led by Prof Kamal Khan, Kobie van Rensburg, Dominic Wheeler (Head of Opera Studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama) and Elaine Kidd (Royal Opera House).
A semifinal will be held on the 27th July 2019 to select 15 finalists who will sing before an audience. Along the young solo singers, Three local choirs have been invited to compete for one Opera Choral Prize of R10 000.
The competition will be held at Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre from 15:00
