ABOUT

The Afrophobic attacks of 2008 which shook the core of African unity have re-emerged in South Africa. In what has been months of sporadic attacks, this month has seen it’s worst yet as Malawian migrants were attacked by a group of unemployed men in Durban. Unfortunately, the South African government does not collect data on the threats and attacks on foreign nationals; however, from the African Centre for Migration and Society (ACMS) as well as through media reports, we see that these attacks continue to ravage our African brothers and sisters, with the most attacks occurring in Gauteng.

Africa Matters in Collaboration with SA Institute Of International Affairs (SAIIA) will be hosting a FREE panel discussion on Uniting Against Afrophobia on Thursday 23rd May 2019. The discussion will be led by a panel of passionate leaders who are seeking to explore solutions on how we can put an end to Afrophobia in our communities. As Africans, we need to take action and a panel discussion is a starting point to influence event

attendees to take action in their respective constituencies.
