Kwai River Lodge

ABOUT

Day One -Choose your Spa Treatments

The lodge has an idyllic setting with all the pampering you need for a delightful 4 nights in the Bush. A comfortable bed, home cooked meals, richly flowing African wines, abundant wildlife, stunning scenery, genuine hospitality to match your fabulous spa treatments. Enjoy spa facilities choosing one massage, one facial, and a manicure or pedicure. So take in the breathtaking views of the Khwai River floodplain from your private decks whilst indulging in your Spa treatments. Divide your time between safaris and pampering in Moremi Game Reserve. Open 4×4 vehicle early morning and late afternoon game drives, as well as guided walks by a team of experienced safari guides. Khwai River Lodge is a renowned game lodge sprawled under a canopy of aged indigenous leadwood and fig trees. The air conditioned, twin-bedded, thatched tents offer guests handsome ensuite bathrooms, romantic mosquito net canopies and personal bars.

Day Two - Divide your time between Safaris and Spa treatments

If you wake to the sound of hippos, grab your (complimentary) high quality Zeiss binoculars to take a closer look. Walk over the paved walkways to the communal areas located at the centre of camp. These include an unpretentious lounge topped by an enormous thatched roof with a fireplace and a bar. You will also find chess sets, a TV with a library of wildlife videos, comfy couches and a small library and dining area with panoramic views over the shallow river valley. There is a raised observation deck overlooking the River (with a high powered telescope for excellent animal spotting), a boma for traditional African meals, and an elevated deck with plenty of quiet reading corners. The impressive heated swimming pool measures 20 meters. The lounge chairs provide the perfect spot to relax while gazing at the surrounding floodplains.

Day Three – Enjoy a Facial on your private deck

The opulent tented chalets are huge canvas structures measuring about 18m x 6m. Glass sliding doors open onto polished wooden floors, topped with rugs and set with comfortable. Twin three-quarter-size beds, which are usually pushed together, have high-quality cotton bedding, bedside tables and lamps, surrounded by mosquito netting, an air-conditioning unit and an overhead fan. There’s a fully-stocked minibar, tea- and coffee-making facilities and an electronic safe, while the desk has universal plug points, and a hairdryer. Each tent also has an electric heater, which we can imagine being very welcome during the colder winter nights!

Behind the bed, a wall separates the bedroom from the en-suite bathroom, finished with lots of dark wood and silver. The dressing room has plenty of hanging space and shelves, with dressing gowns and slippers for your comfort during your stay. There are twin basins and mirrors, a separate toilet and an extra- large shower, each behind a wooden door.

Day Four - Safari Tracking along the Kwai River

Khwai River Lodge is renowned for its large concentrations of animals and it is not unusual to see many different types of wildlife from the comfort of your own private deck. As a year round destination for wildlife, predators can regularly be seen in the area, rated as one of the most prolific in Botswana for viewing wildlife. Ask your hosts about the ‘tracking safari’, which will take you along the Khwai River. Embark on a private, cultural excursion where you will meet one of the village elders for an intimate and insightful experience into Botswana’s vivid culture.

Steal a few quiet moments on your private deck and watch as African jacanas daintily flit between the water lilies in front of you whilst you enjoy your third Spa treatment. Keep your binoculars and camera at hand, as elephants often frequent the camp to slake their thirst at the river in front of the lodge.

Day Five – Air Transfer back to Maun Airport

The lodge provides guests with a thatched dining room, as well as a bar and sitting area with an open fireplace. There is a heated swimming pool and a secluded viewing platform, overlooking the river, for guests to birdwatch. Khwai River Lodge is about 30 minutes’ flight from Maun Airport, so enjoy your breakfast and take in the sweeping views before your Fly-and-Transfer.
