umthendeleko: connecting the Divine Black Feminine this Mother's Day

ABOUT

The long-table experience offers an intergenerational introspective space to explore and traverse the intimate systems of the Divine Black Feminine while actively working to play and rediscover the power of collective memory.

Through the lens of indigenous healing practices, "umthendeleko" honors the legacies of those who have walked the path before – the unnamed queens, politicians, and grandmothers whose contributions deserve recognition. Poetry and music serve as mediums for healing, sparking conversations across generations and raising awareness of silenced histories.

"We envision a world actively pursuing communal healing," says vangile gantsho, founder of the smallgirl rising movement. "Poetry allows us to explore how Black women hold memories through language and our bodies. By sharing these stories and rituals, we pave the path towards individual and collective restoration."

Join us for umthendeleko and celebrate play, strength and resilience. Bring a dish to share, a childhood memory and an open heart.

All humans are welcome. Please adhere to our codes of safety.
