Christians & Politics: Why Vote on 29 May?

Sat Apr 27, 10:00 - Sat Apr 27, 11:30

New Life Church

ABOUT

PERSONS RESIDING IN THE BUFFALO CITY METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY ARE INVITED TO GATHER FOR AN EVENT AIMED AT PREPARING CHRISTIANS FOR SOUTH AFRICA'S UPCOMING GENERAL ELECTIONS

WHEN: Saturday 27 April @ 10 am

WHERE: New Life Church, The Hub Complex, Bonza Bay Rd, Beacon Bay North, East London

Who rules matters. Scripture tells us, "When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, the people groan" (Prov 29:2). Leadership expert John Maxwell writes, "Everything rises and falls on leadership".

In a democracy, citizens can collectively decide who governs the nation and with what laws and policies, with implications for current and future generations. Despite the opportunity to be part of collective decision-making, many South Africans have failed to vote during past elections or, having voted, have failed to vote for "righteous" rulers.

During this free and non-partisan speaking engagement on 27 April (Freedom Day), Craig Bailie will answer the underlying questions:

01) What is the status of voter turnout in South Africa?

02) How do we explain the decline in voter turnout in South Africa?

03) Why is (Christian) political engagement, including voting, important?

04) How does one go about deciding who to vote for?

Different ages are welcome, but we would like as much as possible to reserve seats for eligible voters.

Please bring proof of registration (your ticket) with you for access.

Tea and coffee will be served during the interval.

There will be time for Q&A.

SPEAKER BIO: Craig Bailie has more than ten years of experience (2011-2021) lecturing political science.
