Third Culture Experiment: 50th Edition

Sat Jun 25, 13:00 - Sat Jun 25, 15:30

Hartenberg Wine Estate

ABOUT

Third Culture Experiment (TCE) is a social gathering mediated around food cultures and human connectivity. We're celebrating our 50th edition – eight years after the first event. And we're collaborating with and hosting you at the sprawling and picturesque Hartenberg Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, where they house in-depth knowledge of their terroir with constant innovation and attention to detail.

Now recipients of a 2020 Food XX Award, we hosted our first Experiment in June, Winter of 2014 and we’ll be celebrating our gold anniversary this coming uBusika – we're bringing together people from different walks of life to commune and connect over a seasonal three-course meal.

Experiment [verb]: A tentative procedure, an exploratory trial, an act, or operation for the purpose of discovering something unknown.

“Firstly, we are invested in sourcing ingredients and creating dishes, preparing food, playing around with recipes and techniques so we can develop a best practice our guests will enjoy,” explains Communications Practitioner, Nobhongo Gxolo, our food club co-founder and organiser.

“Secondly there's the social experiment. Big cities don't seem to offer a variety of spaces where strangers can meet each other and build new connections naturally, fluidly. We congregate humans from different backgrounds who bring varying perspectives to the conversation at the table.”

The world has changed. We are learning, unfolding, evolving. Our food club, initially a monthly Experiment, will now be hosted quarterly to pay homage to and celebrate seasonal produce.

The need for connection has found more gravity amid an isolating pandemic. It’s been a while since we last had you at our table – this is the first Experiment since the national lockdown was announced. Our 50th Edition will provide you, our guests, an intimate and convivial environment to connect with others and yourselves - in ways that feel both familiar and new.
