IMPORTANT Change of venue and option for Rob Caskie Storytelling on 24 May

Due to unforeseen government protocols and requirements, we are most regrettably forced to change the venue for our event on Tuesday, 24 May.

The venue is now The Citadel, 15 Cavendish Street, corner of Cavendish and Warwick Streets, Claremont, Cape Town.

This venue is in all respects better than the East Pier venue, with much easier access, parking and facilities.

We are however mindful that some guests may have booked due to provenance of the SA Antarctic Institute. If any wish to cancel we will refund your tickets in full, but very much hoping that all booked guests be happy to join us at The Citadel..

Ernest Shackleton is most famous for his ill-fated Endurance Expedition, but this was his 3rd of 4 Antarctic expeditions. Experience cannot be bought - it has to be earned.

During his 2nd expedition, on the Nimrod, whisky was stashed beneath the Cape Royds hut in 1907. The cases of whisky were discovered 100 years later in 2007, leading to the faithful re-blending of this tipple by Whyte & Mackay Distillery.

The Endurance Expedition (1914-16) is considered the greatest survival story of the modern age. Certainly the life-boat trip from Elephant Island to South Georgia (800miles/1300km) is considered the greatest feat of maritime navigation in history. Shackleton died aged 47 during his 4th Antarctic expedition, onboard the Quest. The Endurance wreck was discovered on the centenary of Shackleton's burial on South Georgia - 5 March 1922.

Raconteur Rob Caskie will be sharing these stories in exquisite detail at the South African Antarctic Institute, home of icebreaker SA Agulhas 11 and discoverer of Shackleton's shipwreck in March in the Weddell Sea at 10 000 feet.

Rob Caskie was passionate about Antarctica from childhood and began a career in professional storytelling on the Anglo-Zulu War battlefields in 2000. Since 2011 he has been to Antarctica and the Arctic on many occasions sharing stories of early Polar exploration, especially Shackleton's. Storytelling takes Rob to the UK annually, the west coast of Canada/Alaska, Hong Kong, and Singapore, whilst still conducting talks and tours across

South Africa. In 2019 he was inducted into the South African Speakers' Hall of Fame.
