Die musiek:

Hierdie a capella werk van ongeveer ’n uur bestaan uit 15 bewegings en word slegs vir die tweede maal ooit in Afrikaans uitgevoer. Die oorspronklike werk (in  Russies) is in 1915 komponeer en is gegrond op tekste uit die Russies-Ortodokse kerk nagwaakseremonie. Dit sluit 3 vorme van sangspraak ("chanting") in en is hoofsaaklik vierstemmig, alhoewel sekere bewegings uitbrei tot 'n elfstemmige harmonie. Die begeleiding deur sangsoliste kan ook waargeneem word.


Die Afrikaanse vertaling is oorspronklik deur Helené Dippenaar gedoen, met die eerste uitvoerings hiervan deur Leon Starker en sy koor, Pro Cantu, in 2010.


Die koor:

Koorinsident is gevorm uit lede en oudlede van verskeie kore in die Stellenbosch/Kaapstad omgewing (Stellenbosch Madrigaalsangers, Canticum Novum, Stellenbosch Universiteitskoor, Schola Cantorum, en meer) en staan o.l.v. David Wolfswinkel.

Vasti Zeeman-Knoessen & Nathan Zachary Lewis.

Met hierdie spesifieke uitvoering sal daar ook orrelspel deur Zorada Temmingh wees.


COVID-19 maatreëls:

COVID-19 maatreëls sal by alle uitvoerings toegepas word. Neem wel kennis dat die koor sonder maskers sal optree. Gehoorgetalle word dus dienooreenkomstig beperk, en sal aangepas word soos nodig.

The music:

This a capella choral composition consists of 15 movements of approximately one hour in total and will only be performed in Afrikaans for the 2nd time ever. The original work (in Russian) was composed in 1915 and consists of settings of texts taken from the Russian Orthodox all-night vigil ceremony. It includes 3 forms of chanting and although it is mainly a 4-part choir, the choir is divided into up to 11-part harmony in certain movements. Soloists will accompany the choir in some pieces.


The original Afrikaans translation was done by Helené Dippenaar, with the first series of performances by Leon Starker and his choir, Pro Cantu, in 2010.


The choir:

Koorinsident originated from existing and previous members of a number of choirs in the Stellenbosch/Cape Town region (Stellenbosch Madrigal Singers, Canticum Novum, Stellenbosch University Choir , and more). The conductor is David Wolfswinkel.


The soloists:

Vasti Zeeman-Knoessen & Nathan Zachary Lewis.


Additional:

This performance will also be enriched by an organ performance by Zorada Temmingh.

COVID-19 regulations will be applied at all performances. Please note the choir will be performing without masks. Audience numbers will be adjusted based on legislation at time of performance.
