Laughs & Latkes is taking place on 28 November at 5:30pm. Be entertained in the comfort of your own kitchen with our brilliant comedic duo or buy a ticket to come and watch at Coffee Time @ Astra Centre. Limited seating available. All Covid protocols will be in place.
Jenny Morris is an author, magazine writer, radio and TV presenter, celebrity chef, teacher and culinary tour guide, who has had an ongoing love affair with food since she was a child.
Tracy Klass: Proof that dynamite comes in small packages…
Tracy is a stand-up comedian, mom of three and shares her love of traditional Jewish food. Not only is she brilliantly funny, she is also a brilliant cook!
Astra Cenre, incorporates Coffee Time, Giftime, the Rosecourt Foundation which consists of three group homes, and supported employment catering for Jewish adults with special needs.
- Workshop: Workers are taught skills in a protective and supportive environment. In this milieu of Social Enterprise, the workers are involved in the manufacture of high quality craft goods, contract work and assisting in the restaurant.
- Therapeutic: Workers enjoy the dignity and therapeutic benefit of being occupied daily. This enhances their self-esteem, and gives them the opportunity of social contact.
- Supported Employment: this service assists people with special needs to find employment on the open labour market, with on-going support.
- Supported Accommodation: Rosecourt House, Rosecourt Terrace and Vriende House gives the residents the opportunity of living independently in a Jewish "home from home" environment.
- Coffee Time serves delicious Beth Din approved, wholesome kosher food. All day breakfasts and scrumptious lunches, ckaes, biscuits, muffins, challahs, rolls and breads. All lovingly prepeared and served to you by members of Astra Centre in a relaxed and tranquil environment at the foot of Table Mountain.
- Giftime: step into the shop and you will find a gift for every occassion. Exquisility pakcaged and custimised, hand crafted products, something special for all ages. Batmitzvah, Barmitzvah, Wedding, baby, birthday, children, Rosh Hashana, Pesach, Chanukkah, Get well, Christmas, Corporate.
A team of dedicated staff provides counselling, life skills training and support to the individual and their families.
Volunteers play a valuable role in the success of the Coffee shop, Giftime , the workshops and the garden.
Income from the sale of goods, donations (including the greeting card service), fund-raising and bequests all contribute to the sustainability of the organisation.
