Herschel Digital Archives Fundraising Project

About

In 2017 the Old Herschelians Association commenced with the Archives Project which aimed to create a safe, suitable home for the archive materials as well as inventory all items. The ultimate goal is to fully digitise our archives, making them accessible to everyone in the Herschel Family online and establishing a living archive.

We are almost there, but we need your help!

We have taken up residence in our lovely new home fondly called the Herschel Heritage Centre. The Heritage Centre has been set up to welcome guests who can peruse our records and view the many historical items in person. We have commissioned Dr Kathy Wheeler, an Old Herschelian and Museologist to fully sort and inventory the collection, and this work is almost complete. Now we are looking to digitise all relevant records in the Heritage Centre so that everyone in the Herschel Family may enjoy them and keep our rich and special traditions and memories alive!

Given the recent UCT fires, the need for digitising our records has been made more urgent and as we look forward to our Centenary year in 2022, we would love to be able to achieve this final digitisation milestone by the end of 2021.

We have been greatly supported by the school in this 4-year project, but now need your help to help us cross the finish line.

Any small amount would support our dream, but given we have over 3500 Old Herschelians in our database, if every Old Herschelian donated just R15 we would be able to achieve our target of R55 000.
