ABOUT

JACK PAROWS LIST OF COOL SHIT

JACK PAROW is more than a dangerous rapper and a controversial headline – he’s a poet and a South African Pop Culture Icon.

Parow has rewritten what it means to be Afrikaans. He is our Ambassador of good times filling up the jols; proudly representing South Africa and his mother tongue as far as he goes - even all the way to Russia. He is one of South Africa’s most recognizable stars and a notable cross-cultural collaborator. He is a keen social observer, colouring his lyrics with relatability

There are the gold and platinum albums, the long peak caps, the Parow Brandy, the documentaries, the autobiography, the PUMA vellies and golden high-tops, his own festival in Europe, the comic book, the two TV series, the rugby jerseys, the braai sauce, the movie… He has even been Schucksed by Shuster. He forms strong bonds with his fans and that’s why, after 12 years, he is stronger than ever.

Before Cooler as Ekke catapulted him to success, he studied to be a mechanic but had to take jobs like packing fish in Cape Town harbour and allocating graves for the Cemetery Division of the Cape Town municipality to support his rap habit. Performing only for a beer and pizza soon changed, when his collaboration with Die Heuwels Fantasties, Die Vraagstuk, pushed him into the limelight. Jack Parow released his debut self-titled full length album in 2010. It went platinum within a year.

His music video for Cooler as Ekke was the first Afrikaans music video to strike a million views on YouTube.

Since his debut release Parow has headlined at all the major festivals in South Africa. He has performed in Russia, England, Belgium, Hong Kong and the USA. He has toured the Netherlands so often and garnered such a massive following that it lead to his own biennial festival in Utrecht called PAROWFEST.

Performance highlights include performing at major festivals alongside legends such as Eminem, Snoop Lion, Kanye West, The Killers, The Prodigy and Limp Bizkit.
