Hanahaki Short Film Crowdfund

Hanahaki is a 20 minute student short film being shot in May of 2021, by film students from City Varsity, Cape Town.

Florence experiences a sudden loss of a loved one, forcing her to begin the difficult mourning process. Her grief manifests in a rare illness - Hanahaki's Disease - which causes flowers to grow on her lungs. Florence is faced with a difficult choice before she can heal.

The script draws inspiration from the fictional Hanahaki's Disease from Japanese folklore, which afflicts victims of unrequited love. In Florence's case, it is the love she still has for someone who has passed on.

Dedicated to the loved ones we've lost, Hanahaki is a project close to our hearts that we would like to bring to life to the best of our abilities and share with the world.
