Modern Community Foundation (MCF) has partnered Aids Health care Foundation, Childtime community feeding and the Tshwane municipality in this event titled People Against Gender-Based-Violence Conference. This event will be held with the COVID-19 regulations in mind.

In 2005, the United Nations General Assembly set a goal to eliminate all forms of — ‘violence against women and the girl child, including by ending impunity and by ensuring the protection of civilians, in particular women and the girl child, during and after armed conflicts in accordance with the obligations of States under international humanitarian law and international human rights law’ (2005 World Summit Outcome Document)

The GBV conference came about because as people, we need to keep each other safer.

Gender Based Violence is a pandemic that leaves homes without mothers, sisters, and daughters. It strips its victims of self-confidence, self-esteem and can demoralize them to the extent of emotional, physical, spiritual, and financial trauma. The consequences of abuse run deeper than physical, gender, creed, or age.

Finding a platform where knowledge is power, this conference endeavors to be the catalyst through which raising awareness of available resources, safe houses, counselling, prevention, and action can be advocated.

The GBV conference is lobbying for the promotion of community education and providing families with healthy solutions, services, and support. We endeavor to also provide legal, physiological, phycological, and financial emancipation.

1.     Preventative and warning signs to create healthy boundaries against GBV.

2.     Understanding the legal recourse and framework, obtaining legal advice and assistance at affordable and Pro-Bono services

3.     Having a haven for self-development and economic empowerment centres

4.     A hotline that is safe and secure, with necessary information, and counselling

This conference will be one of many actioning Advocacy against GBV. It will be attended by 100 physical attendees and 100 virtual attendees.
